The present article argues the urgency of ethics as bedding for the search of a democratic society, and its relations with the perspective on human rights. The importance of human rights for the construction of a democratic and effectively participative society, and the meaning of democracy at present time in which human rights of third and fourth generations are constituted as basic premises for the exercise of democratic citizenship is also discussed.
