Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the concept of civil society presented by Jürgen Habermas and his place in the context of discussions on democratic theory. It will introduce the concept of deliberative democracy, emphasizing its relation to the notion of communication and public opinion. According to this perspective, civil society capacity to influence the public-political field can bridge between the concepts of liberal and republican democracy.
