Abstract

Osvaldo Álvarez gives us in this essay a profile of who was president of Argentina and a political thinker, Hipólito Yrigoyen. The central elements of his philosophical, social and political thougts are here rescued.

Founder of the “Unión Cívica Radical”, Yrigoyen represents the best of a generation who tried to undertake a deep reform of argentinean society on the basis of a strong compromise with the nation, democracy, social change and ethics in all public issues. Inspired by the “krausista” way of thinking and the democratic model of the III French Republic, Yrigoyen rises as the figure of an austere politician, compromised with the developement of his country in a context of international cooperation, echoing the ideals of internationalism present in the XIX century.
