Abstract

The purpose of this article is to analyze the relationship between the party affiliation of parliamentarians and their respective positions regarding abortion. To carry out this research is based on an analysis of the pronouncements of the parliamentarians in the Chamber of Deputies of Brazil and of Uruguay, between 1985-2016. The text is divided into three sections: in the first, we present the methodological elements adopted; in the other sections, we examine the formation of the party systems in Brazil and Uruguay and analyze how the positions on abortion were expressed, according to party affiliation.
