In this article we present Iván Illich’s critique to industrial society, specifically in relation to the problem of energy and equity. Special attention is given to the concept of conviviality and its possible offshoots to face energetic problems. A discussion about Illich’s way of critiquing society is presented, in relation to what has been called a “radical humanism” and to individual needs.
